Friday 21st April 2017 saw Bracknell’s local heroes recognised at the 12th annual Pride of Bracknell Forest Awards. Bracknell-based Redwood Technologies Group, the main organisers of the event, also showed its support through the sponsorship of two categories, which both celebrated the successes of young people in the area.

The Awards were held at Bracknell & Wokingham College and saw attendees enjoy a glittering three-course meal and drinks, as well as entertainment from Bracknell Gymnastics Club, Ranelagh School Choir, and Wellington College’s a capella group the Wellingtones. The evening was hosted by BBC Radio Berkshire’s Andrew Peach and Ady Williams, with special guests including David Seaman and his Dancing on Ice star wife, Frankie, as well as the Lord Lieutenant of the Royal County of Berkshire, Mr James Puxley.

There were 10 awards up for grabs this year, recognising those Bracknell residents who have gone above and beyond in areas such as education, sport, volunteering and business. Redwood Technologies Group member Content Guru sponsored the ‘Health and Sport – Young Person’s Award’, which celebrates those under 18s from the region who have made outstanding commitments to the fields of health and sport. Bracknell Athletics Club’s Amelia Quirk took home the award for her dedication to training and numerous national and international achievements.

Sister company Redwood Technologies supported the ‘John Nike Pride of Bracknell Forest – Young Person’s Award’, introduced in honour of the late Bracknell hero John Nike. This year’s winner was Aysha Riley-Marsh, an inspirational 11-year-old who has suffered with a number of medical difficulties and, despite having a prolonged period of time off school, she has returned to the classroom with enthusiasm and is now determined to become a doctor.

Redwood Technologies Group co-founder and CEO, Sean Taylor, commented:

“2017 is set to be a fantastic year for Bracknell as the town centre regeneration work nears completion, bringing with it optimism about the region’s future, thousands of new jobs and broader opportunities. At this time, it’s important to recognise the strong community at the heart of the region that continues to drive its success. Now in their 12th year, the 2017 Pride of Bracknell Forest Awards have been the biggest and best yet, celebrating the extraordinary deeds and selflessness of those around us who make enormous sacrifices to improve the quality of life in the area.”
