Last night, Redwood's sister company, Content Guru, was highly commended in the Cloud Provider of the Year category at the 2013 UK IT Industry Awards Ceremony, hosted at Battersea Park Events Arena, London. A delegation, including Co-Founders Sean and Martin Taylor and Commercial Director, John Rees, joined thousands of major players from the technology industry for a gala dinner and the announcement of the award winners.
These prestigious awards are organised by the BCS (the Chartered Institute for IT) and Computing magazine, and celebrate innovation and excellence in the IT industry. Awards were presented across some 25 categories, ranging from Best Use of Cloud Services to Young IT Professional of the Year. On hand to present the awards was comedian and television host Jimmy Carr.
Content Guru’s entry was centred around storm® SHIELD™, a ‘burst management’ solution based on Redwood technology and delivered from the cloud, which enables some of the UK’s largest organisations to handle huge peaks in unstructured contacts. Two weeks before the awards ceremony, the UK was hit by St. Jude’s Storm, causing widespread interruptions and leading to enormous numbers of customer enquiries inundating support and contact centres. At this time storm SHIELD ensured that vital energy and travel providers maintained their critical communications services, even when faced with many hundreds of thousands of extra transactions.
“We’re delighted to have received this commendation but, of course, disappointed not to come away as the winner,” commented Martin Taylor. “To be recognised as one of the very top cloud providers in the whole UK IT industry is brilliant, and it serves as a testament to all of the incredible work our team continually puts in. It is fitting that this award comes just weeks after SHIELD helped the UK’s infrastructure to withstand the most severe weather conditions in twenty-five years, and I almost wonder if we might have gone one better had our entry been able to take this into account! We will certainly be back again next year, entering more categories and hopefully coming away with the top prize.”
